RAYMOND DUNCAN

Raymond Duncan (November 1, 1874, in San Francisco, California – August 14, 1966, in Cavalaire-sur-Mer, France) was an American dancer, artist, poet, craftsman and philosopher, brother of dancer Isadora Duncan. 

In 1898 left America with his family and moved to London, Berlin, Athens and Paris. In 1903 travelled to Greece and decided to build the temple of dance which now is the Duncan Dance Research Center in the Municipality of Byron. Raymond got married to Penélope Sikelianou, sister of the renowned Greek poet Angelos Sikelianos. In 1911 they founded the Akademia at 31 Rue de Seine, which offered free courses in their specialty areas of dance, arts, and crafts.
